PEARLMAN FAMILY

Aaron PERCZYK (pronounced per-chick), born April 12, 1872 in Oran or Butrimantz, Russia, arrived alone at Ellis Island on January 18, 1906 on the SS Pretoria. His second wife, Feige and their six children stayed behind in Meretz, Lithuania, a Jewish shtetl just south of Vilnius. He was headed to Terre Haute, Indiana to meet his sponsor and brother-in-law, Avram FEINBERG.

Six years later on August 23, 1911, Feige (Fanny) and their six children, Israel (14), Isak (10), Noske (8), Leibke (9), Beilke (5) and Odes (3) arrived in New York on the SS Finland. Aaron was late in meeting them, hence they were listed on the "Detained Passenger List," but he arrived a few hours later and brought them home.

Aaron's occupation was in woodworking as he is noted on his Ellis Island arrival record as a "joiner." Later, he owned a second-hand furniture store in Manhattan on Allen Ave.

Back in Meretz, Aaron had first married Rivka GORDON and had four sons, Sam (1896-1957), Louis (1899-1966), Irving (1898-1960) and Nathan (1900-1975). Sometime after Nathan was born, Rivka died and Aaron married Feige KRIVIRUTCHKY PECKER. Fanny brought with her, two children from a previous marriage to Notel PEKER: Isadore (1894-1971) and Lillian (1900-1965) who changed their surnames to Becker.  Together, Aaron and Fanny added four more children, Heshy (1912-1920), Gladys (1914-1985), Anna (1907-1993) and Ida (1908-1935).

Aaron opened his furniture store in Manhattan and in 1922, his son Irving joined him in the business. Prior to that time, his other three sons had moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Nathan and Louis permanently settled. Due to poor health caused by hereditary heart problems, Sam, a tailor, moved back to New York for better care and settled in Brooklyn.

Fanny died in 1938 and Aaron married for a third time to Yetta. They had no children.

Aaron passed away on August 29, 1942. He was 70.
